OUR MISSION

The mission of the Angkor Wat International Film Festival is to showcase and celebrate feature films, documentaries and short subjects, both live action and animated, created in digital or film media, whose subjects and themes deal with the preservation of culture and environment. This is an important focus in
a world where the pressures to homogenize cultures through enculturation and globalization are seen as progress -- and inevitable. This results in traditional indigenous ethos and values being replaced by new
beliefs that fuel consumerism and materialism, placing both the traditional cultures and our planet's
ecosystem at risk.

The Angkor Wat International Film Festival is sponsored by and will be held at The Sofitel Angkor
Phokeethra Golf & Spa Resort, an international world-class and award-winning hotel in Siem Reap.

Siem Reap is selected as the setting for the Angkor Wat International Film Festival because it represents
an admirable endeavor to preserve culture and the environment through ecotourism. Built in the early 12th Century, Angkor Wat is a testament to the majesty of an ancient culture preserved in stone for the world to experience as well as a symbol of pride for the Kingdom of Cambodia. It is also a testament to the culture
and people of Cambodia who, having gone through the horrors of the Khmer Rouge and Pol Pot, have persevered and are rebuilding their culture, lives and country with strength and bravado.

An educational component also is an integral part of the mission of The Angkor Wat International Film
Festival. We will be presenting select Cambodian and International films free to the local Cambodian
people to expose them to cinema from their own countrymen as well as international cinema and the
people and cultures of the world. As part of the Festival programming, we will hold filmmaker panels
on a variety of topics about digital cinema, the preservation of culture, environment and other interesting
and cutting edge talks.

The Angkor Wat International Film Festival is a celebration of culture and the environment. Our mission
is to donate money to the American Assistance for Cambodia (www.cambodiaschools.com) and to the Cambodian Children’s Fund in Phnom Penh (www.cambodianchildrensfund.org).

ALL DONATIONS FROM AWIFF WILL GO TO THIS CHILDREN’S CHARITY IN CAMBODIA.
